Week Five

You’d think that by having to stay home due to government ordered isolation, each week would feel the same. Well, you’d be right, for the most part. But I will say I’m still surprised with how each week goes, including my clothing choices. Shall we dive in?

Observations of my dress habits this week:

  • I’ve been finding joy in outfits again lately. I noticed that I was planning outfits in my head before bed one night, which hasn’t happened in a long while. It felt nice.
  • I love a sweater I can wrap myself into. A hoodie, a cardigan, a cozy shawl (correct, not technically a sweater); I love the act of wrapping it tight around me, and giving myself a sweater hug.
  • This isn’t so much dress-related as personal hygiene-related, but that’s body and appearance-related, so I’m letting it happen. (Also, this is my project and I make the rules.) This week I stopped washing my hair, hence all the braids and kerchiefs. It just made this week feel easier than dealing with long, wet hair every couple of days. You might ask, “Why don’t you blow-dry it?” Because I’m lazy, and am trying to impress no one here. I might play with this a bit more in the coming weeks.
  • Again, not clothing related, but appearance related: I have got quite the resting bitch face. I do think the whole idea is sexist, but I’ve got it, and my internalized misogyny has been telling me that I need to add some joy to my face for these photos so I don’t look so angry or grumpy. I’d like to tell that voice to shut up.

I hope that you all are safe and healthy. If you’d like to share your quarantine looks please feel free to send them to me, or share on Instagram! If you do, don’t forget to tag @talkclothespodcast!
